Developmental trajectory of the healthy human gut microbiota during the first 5 years of life

In this study the microbiota from 471 Swedish children was followed from birth until 5 years of age. The results show that the gut microbiota of children mature along similar trajectories but at different speeds. By following the children through age-specific community types, researchers observed that children have individual changes in the gut microbiota development trajectories.
