Optimizing Nutrition and Mobility in Older Adults

This peer-reviewed clinical trial, published in JAMDA, investigated the combined effects of sit-to-stand (STS) exercises and protein-rich oral nutritional supplementation (ONS) in nursing home residents aged 75+. Conducted across eight nursing homes, the study evaluated physical function, nutritional status, body composition, quality of life, and healthcare resource use over 12 weeks. While the overall intervention did not significantly improve mobility measures, findings showed that residents with high adherence to both STS and ONS achieved gains in fat-free mass, weight stability, and maintenance of functional performance.
