Amino acid formula with synbiotics in CMPA management: expert consensus from the Middle East and North Africa
Expert consensus on amino acid formula in cow’s milk protein allergy
Cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) is one of the most common food allergies in infancy, and managing it well is important for an infant’s growth and development. Presented as an e-poster at the 58th Annual Meeting of ESPGHAN, this consensus brings together expert views on the role of a synbiotic-containing amino acid formula in the dietary management of CMPA in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Amino acid formulas are generally considered for infants with more severe CMPA, or for those who do not tolerate an extensively hydrolysed formula. Synbiotics combine prebiotics and probiotics, and their addition to amino acid formulas reflects growing interest in the gut microbiota of infants with CMPA.
What you will learn
This poster gives healthcare professionals a regional perspective on:
- The place of amino acid formulas in CMPA management
- Why synbiotics are being studied in infants with CMPA
- How the gut microbiota may relate to CMPA
- Expert consensus relevant to clinical practice in the MENA region
Breastfeeding remains the preferred way to feed infants, including those with CMPA, where possible.
