The exclusive breastfeeding rate in China is only 29%, far off from the recommended 50%. There are many breast-feeding barriers from pregnancy to postpartum of which lactational mastitis is one of the important ones. Therefore the first evidence-based breastfeeding guideline for breastfeeding promotion strategy has been developed in China, defining 28 major breastfeeding issues including recommendations. As a next step experts in China are further driving education on the importance of micro-ecology of breast milk and prevention of lactational mastitis to both doctors and the public since breastfeeding and lactational mastitis are not only a clinical issues but also public health topics.
