In this session, Prof. Van Zanten highlights the critical phase of transition from the acute to convalescence phase of critical illness, around the moment of the patients' ICU discharge to the ward and look into what is happening in the recovery of these patients leaving ICU with respect to nutrition therapy. What can we learn from the scarce research performed during this phase? What are the nutritional demands of these patients to enhance functional recovery, and how large is the gap in nutritional needs as patients leave the ICU?
